Adding value to brown coalMecrus continues to explore ways to refi ne low grade Victorian brown coal to make it more effi cient and to improve its benefi cial use in a range of industrial situations. In the Latrobe Valley the company is currently experimenting with blending mineral fines into brown coal to create a higher energy briquette that can be added to manufacturing processes to make them more efficient. Experiments in blending waste with coal have the potential to provide energy values for industrial uses and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. “We are committed to fostering a continuous improvement culture,” said managing director, Barry Richards. “Through our research and development program we are looking for opportunities to add value and make coal a cleaner, more environmentally friendly product.” |
